FlytBase is a company that provides software solutions to automate and scale drone operations. It is the world’s first Internet of Drones Platform (IoD), which allows deployment of drones using cloud based applications.

Role: During a 2 month internship here, I was the primary designer for developing a security and surveillance web platform to help users set up automated drone missions. I created a high fidelity clickable prototype which was used for development as well as client pitches. The platform is modular and features are offered based on client requirements and needs. This provided a template for further development of products as well. A clickthrough prototype is available to view on request.

How might we enhance user experience for configuring and launching automated drone missions on the security and surveillance web platform, ensuring ease of use and flexibility for diverse client needs?

Mapping features

Based on secondary research, studying competitors like DJI and understanding business goals to map out the different features available to the users to set their automated drone missions. I focused on the broad level tasks as the details of each were defined iteratively in collaboration with business development and engineering teams.

Low-fidelity Wireframes

First iteration of low-fidelity wireframes with the MVP features and overall layout and navigation structure. The primary features included are the dashboard, missions and team. This created a base structure moving forward for all offerings provided by the company.

Detailed Wireframe

Detailing out different features in a clickable wireframe to understand the flow, information architecture, tasks and features. The primary goal of this step was to map out the information architecture and include secondary features of the platform like mission logs, air traffic and so on.

High fidelity Prototype

Designing and implementing the UI based on the brand guidelines and style to create a detailed prototype for clients and development teams. As design and development progressed, there were significant iterations around primary and secondary features and capabilities. The dashboard provides live data, notifications and controls.

Onboarding

This is an important step in the onboarding process that enables users to connect their drones from the cloud so that they can schedule missions on it later on as well as team management to add authorized users for a B2B solution.

Active missions

Live video feed from different cameras of the drone as well as current status of the drones and missions easily available to view. There is flexibility in the different views and there is an option to add/change them.

Mission data

Large amounts of data from the drone mission saved and available to seamlessly view, sort and download. There are filters available based on time, date and location and can be compared across different moments as well.
