We made an alternative controller game which was showcased at Super Magfest 2023. This game uses a flashlight to control a player navigating through an underground mystery.

Concept

The primary interaction of this game was using a flashlight to navigate through a dark space. The light in the game would mimic the flashlight's direction for a more realistic effect.

Introducing a Challenge

The initial version of the game did not have any other challenge than to reach the end point. To add a more stakes, we introduced an unseen entity that the player would need to hide from (by switching off their light).

Set-Up

Using an Arduino to control the keyboard input using photoresistor values, we designed an arcade set-up that would resemble an actual arcade game.

Testing

The goal of testing was to figure out the right size of the hole through which the photo resistor will receive the light, distance between two photo resistors and distance from the screen so it does not reflect on the game play.
