AMBULANCE SERVICES
Classroom Project, 2017, Individual
How can ambulances in Indian metropolitans efficiently navigate through traffic during peak hours?
The lack of medical attention at the time of trauma leads to nearly 27% deaths in India annually. The road traffic management and people’s mentality to not wait unless they know of the reason are the major factors that are a hindrance for ambulances.
DEFINING THE PROBLEM
Efficiency needs to be increased for ambulances to reach emergency locations on time and then finding the quickest way to a hospital. The road traffic management and people’s mentality to not wait unless they know of the reason are the major factors that are a hindrance for ambulances. These need to be addressed using technology based systems.
SOLUTION
I took a system-based approach where I took into consideration three primary groups - the ERS call handlers, the ambulance drivers and the people on the road who affect the movement of the ambulances.

The digital aspect of the solution involved:
1. A platform for ERS call handlers to receive calls and collect information which could be efficiently forwarded to the ambulance drivers
2. A vehicular dashboard set up inside ambulances which will be able to receive prompts to answer to emergency situations
